To round off briefly the construction industry side of his story, PBW remained a director of Cubitts until about 1970, after which he devoted himself entirely to photography, writing, editing, model making, and railway preservation. Eventually, he became chairman until he sold the business to Holland Hannen & Cubitts in 1964. Resuming civilian life, PBW joined the family firm, being third in command after his father and uncle. The ‘against the light’ style has given the image a slightly unreal quality. ![]() A classic view of the Lickey Incline, where a ‘Jubilee’ climbs north towards Blackwell with an express from Bristol. By the time of demobilisation he had reached the rank of squadron leader. After four days adrift in an inflatable he was rescued by a Greek freighter. There, he was shot down over the Mediterranean and was the sole survivor of the crew. For the rest of the war he served in the supposedly less arduous Transport Command in the Middle East. That in itself was remarkable: the chance of survival was less than 10 per cent. He did however qualify as a navigator, completing his training in Canada under the Empire Air Training Scheme.īack in Britain he was posted to 15 Squadron and completed three tours of duty (each of 30 flights) in Lancaster bombers during the air campaign against Germany and occupied Europe. He volunteered for the RAF, where his wish to become a pilot was foiled by less than perfect eyesight. In his early teens he owned a camera, and some of those photos, not at all bad, still survive.Īfter PBW completed his education at Warwick School it was intended he should join the family firm, but the outbreak of the Second World War put that on hold. It was undoubtedly there PBW developed his lifetime devotion to the narrow gauge picturesque that was to be the subject of so much of his early writing and photography. The Multi-Gym is in the Infirmary, the Basic Training is in the Archive, etc. If you did research things on the Lair tab the research will show you the name of the item it unlocks on the left side of the Research screen and you should be able to find it in the build menu with a bit of searching. I have a feeling that you've researched the Henchman upgrades thinking they were for your minions since they're on the Minion tab.it's a bit counter-intuitive. Did you research something on the Minion (yellow) tab of the research screen or the Lair (green) tab? On the Minion tab there are researches that increase you HENCHMAN stats by +50, on the Lair tab there are researches that unlock items for you to build that will allow a minion to raise a stat above 50 by interacting with it. Can you explain me clearly with an example? I think maybe you're confused about what you researched.
